New rules for hand luggage come into force at some British airports today.
Two carry-on bags per passenger will be allowed at airports which comply with extra security checks.
The number of items of hand luggage which could be brought through airports in Britain had been limited to one.
But from today, 22 airports that have installed improved security scanners are raising that limit to two.
Among those changing their rules are Heathrow, Stansted, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Prestwick, Manchester and Birmingham.
But airlines can still place restrictions on the amount of hand luggage that can be taken onto their aircraft, so the advice for passengers is to check before they fly.
Airline Easyjet said there was 'massive scope' for confusion and it was retaining the one-bag rule on all its flights regardless of the airport.
