The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has said he has no immediate plans to step down.
Speaking during an interview with Joe Duffy during a live broadcast on RTÉ Radio from Grafton Street in Dublin on Christmas Eve, Mr Ahern said he would be staying on as Taoiseach for a 'good few years'.
When asked about his recent appearance at the Mahon Tribunal, the Taoiseach said it was something which had to be done.
Mr Ahern also outlined his plans for the start of 2008,which include a trip to South Arica in January. This will take in the Niall Mellon Township Project.
Next year will also see Mr Ahern addressing both Houses of the United States Congress.
Mr Ahern also did not rule out a visit by Britain's Queen Elizabeth to Ireland within the next few years, possibly next year.
