Jacob Zuma - Corruption claims 'politically motivated'

Supporters of the newly elected leader of South Africa's ruling African National Congress, Jacob Zuma, have said that new corruption allegations against him are politically motivated.

Following his victory Mr Zuma is regarded as being in pole position to succeed Thabo Mbeki as President when he steps down in 2009.

The General-Secretary of the Congress of South African Trade Unions, Zwelinzima Vavi, said previous charges had been thrown out of court and there was no substance to the latest allegations.
