The head of Turkey's military has said it had US approval for Turkish air strikes against Kurdish PKK targets in northern Iraq today.
Turkey has carried out a series of overnight raids on what are reported to be Kurdish rebel areas in northern Iraq.
The Turkish military said its planes hit targets of the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, in a number of locations.
Officials in northern Iraq said ten villages were attacked and that one woman was killed.
Several houses and a school are also reported to have been destroyed.
