A public meeting has taken place to discuss plans for barrier-free tolling on the M50 motorway.
The National Roads Authority has had six objections to its proposals to remove toll barriers and replace them with electronic tolling.
The State is due to operate the tolling system from August next year, after buying out National Toll Roads contract.
Motoring and consumer associations are outlining their opposition to the plans.
The AA has claimed the new technology that would replace the barriers would be enormously expensive and complex.
It wants the tolls to be abandoned and replaced with a 2c per litre 'infrastructure levy' on fuel.
Five other parties, including the Irish Road Haulage Association and the National Consumer Agency, have also lodged objections.
The consumer body opposes plans to increase toll prices from next year while hauliers want heavy goods vehicles to be exempted from charges when the toll-bridge is handed over to the State.
