The Managing Director of Mulleadys Waste Recycling has said up to 20 jobs could be affected by the fire at the company's Drumlish facility this morning.

Anthony Mulleady said waste collection operations would not be affected by the fire, but waste sorting equipment has been totally destroyed in the blaze.

Management were to meet staff later today.

Several units from Longford and Edgeworthstown fire stations were fighting the blaze, which broke out beside the dry recycling shed at around 5.30am and spread to two nearby facilities.

Last January the same facility was seriously damaged by fire and the owner of the company, Anthony Mulleady, was hospitalised as a result of severe burns.
