A strike by school bus drivers at Bus Éireann is still set to go ahead on Friday, potentially disrupting around 14,000 school children and their parents.
However, it is hoped further negotiations at the Labour Relations Commission tomorrow can resolve the dispute.
Most school bus services are provided by independent contractors retained by Bus Éireann.
However, around 550 part time drivers are directly employed by the company. They work 21 hours a week and are paid €11.66 an hour.
They say their pay is inadequate and that they enjoy none of the other benefits like sick pay and pensions enjoyed by full-time staff.
The drivers, who belong to SIPTU and NBRU, deferred a one day stoppage due last Friday to allow for further negotiations tomorrow.
A spokesperson for Bus Éireann said it is hopeful of a resolution provided all parties are reasonable.
