The Health Information and Quality Authority has said it is not inquiring into the controversy which has lead to a review of pathology tests at Cork University Hospital.
A spokesperson for the authority said it first learned of the internal review at CUH, at the end of last week.
Cancer tests involving male and female patients have been sent to a laboratory in London for independent review, by the hospital.
An initial report on the review says the major issue identified is of 'serious diagnostic errors.'
From an initial review of 166 cases, 15 reported as negative or inadequate and were found to contain malignancy or features suggestive of malignancy.
A further six samples required follow up and one benign tumour was missed.
The review is examining the work of a Finnish pathologist who was employed on a temporary basis at the hospital for seven weeks in July and August.
The review expected to be completed in around two weeks.
The HSE has not said how many tests are involved and if any cases of misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis have been identified.
