A child has been killed after a single-vehicle crash near Edgeworthstown in Co Longford.
Four other people were injured, including two children, after a car ran into an embankment along the old Longford road out of the town.
Locals say there is heavy fog and mist in the area, although it is not clear if this was a contributing factor to the accident.
The injured have been brought to the Midland Regional Hospital.
The extent of their injuries is not known but emergency services have described the incident as serious.
