A man in his early 70s has died after being struck by a car in Co Clare.

He was crossing the N18 in Portdrine when the incident happened shortly after 8pm last night.

Separately, a man has died following a collision near Kenagh in Co Longford last Thursday.

Gardaí say the 22-year-old, with an address in Carrick-on-Shannon in Co Leitrim, was taken to hospital after his car left the road.

He died at Mullingar General Hospital last night.

A 21-year-old man who was a passenger in the car was treated for his injuries at Tullamore General Hospital.

His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
