Gardaí in Co Westmeath are investigating a drowning incident in which two brothers died.
The body of a 41-year-old man was taken from the River Shannon in Athlone at around midday yesterday.
A second body, of a 39-year-old man, was recovered from the water at 11am this morning.
It was discovered by a local diving club during a training exercise.
The deceased were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar where post mortem examinations are to be carried out.
