Six fishermen were rescued from a sinking trawler off the Wexford coast last night.
The fishermen were forced to abandon their Irish fishing vessel, the Darnette, 75km off Tuscar Rock.
The Darnette issued a Mayday call at 9.20pm last night to say it was taking in large quantities of water.
LE Eithne, the Irish Naval vessel, responded to the call, as did the Irish Coastguard helicopter, another Irish fishing vessel, the Suzannah G, and a French trawler.
The Suzannah G was the first vessel on the scene and took the six men onboard as the Coastguard helicopter watched.
It then sailed back to Dunmore East to bring the men ashore.
The LE Eithne stayed on the scene through the night to monitor its submersion as the Darnette posed a hazard to other vessels while partially submerged.
