The Government has awarded €87m to a number of major science projects operated jointly by industry and universities.
It is the largest funding award made under the Government agency Science Foundation Ireland.
The awards will be made to projects over a period of five years.
The largest award of €16m goes to Dublin City University to fund a software language translation project.
The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheál Martin said the projects represented the future for the Irish economy and would be a major factor in creating jobs.
