The number of people employed in the public service in June was 254,000, an increase of 2,300 from March.
The figure, which excludes the health service, showed a rise of 3,900 compared with June last year.
Average weekly earnings in the public sector rose at an annual rate of 5.5% to €926.64, according to the Central Statistics Office.
When health is included, the number of people employed was 365,600, up 10,700 compared with a year earlier.
Health staff rose by 6,800 to 104,800, though the CSO warns that the figures are not directly comparable because of changes in grades and agencies.
