A 20-year-old Irishman has been killed in a road accident in Perth in Western Australia.
He was a front seat passenger in a car which crashed through a central barrier and crossed to the wrong side of the road before colliding with another car in the northeastern suburb of Bedford.
Four other Irish people, three women and a man, aged between 19 and 25, are being treated for serious injuries following the crash.
One of the four, a 20-year-old woman, is in a critical condition.
It has been reported that seven people, including six Irish, were in the car at the time of the crash.
However the Department of Foreign Affairs has only confirmed that at least five Irish people were travelling in the Toyota Corolla car when the collision occurred at around 11.10pm local time last night.
The driver of the second car, a 64-year-old woman, was also injured.
The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the families through the Embassy in Canberra and the Honorary Consulate in Perth.
