It has been confirmed that a human body was found in a slurry tank on a farm in west Cork this morning.
A garda investigation is under way into the discovery, which was made during a planned search of the farm at Shanlaragh, on the road between Dunmanway and Macroom.
It is understood gardái were acting on information when the body was discovered in the tank in a large cattle shed at around 8.40am.
State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy and the Garda Technical Bureau are on their way to the scene, and the Garda Water Unit will also be involved in the operation.
It is expected that the body will remain at the scene, which has been sealed off, overnight.
Efforts to recover the body will begin in the morning and, if successful, the body will then be removed to Cork University Hospital for a post mortem examination.
It is understood the body could have been in the tank for up to a fortnight.
Gardaí are treating the discovery as suspicious.
