Dual All-Ireland hurling and football medal winner Teddy McCarthy has been sentenced to two months in prison.
Cobh District Court heard how McCarthy refused to give a blood or urine sample after he was stopped by gardaí last November.
Instead he insisted he be allowed use an intoxilizer machine even though the garda station did not have one.
Judge Michael Pattwell said it seemed to him that Teddy McCarthy was 'giving two fingers' to a law designed to save hundreds of lives.
Mr McCarthy is to appeal the sentence.
