A plan to develop a landfill in Co Dublin has taken a significant step forward after the EPA announced a 'proposed decision' to grant a licence.
Fingal County Council wants to develop the landfill and public recycling facility at Lusk in north Co Dublin. The landfill would take 500,000 tonnes of non-hazardous waste.
After evaluating the over 100 submissions the EPA has proposed to grant a licence for the dump. The proposed decision contains more than 130 conditions.
The EPA says it is satisfied that emissions from the landfill will not adversely affect human health or the environment.
Opponents of the facility now have 28 days to examine the EPA's decision and decide whether to object or request an oral hearing.
The EPA's Board of Directors will make the final decision whether to either grant or refuse a licence.
