Disinfection points at Irish ports and airports, introduced in the immediate aftermath of last month's outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Britain, are being discontinued with effect from tomorrow.
The Minister for Agriculture & Food, Mary Coughlan said that the lifting of the Surveillance Zone in Britain and the ending of disinfection was a further indication of a return to normality.
The Minister said that the additional veterinary certification requirements for animals and their products being exported from the UK would remain in place probably for another few days.
Minister Coughlan said the helpful communication from the UK authorities had greatly assisted her Department in reacting promptly and appropriately after the outbreak in Britain.
The Minister reiterated the importance to farmers of the need to maintain high standards of biosecurity.
