A post mortem is to be carried out on the body of a 16-year-old boy who died after collapsing in a Co Westmeath school this afternoon.
The boy, who has been named locally as Zeesham Muhammed, was a student at the Marist Secondary School in Athlone.
Efforts to recusitate the boy failed and he was taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe where he was pronounced dead.
Originally from Pakistan, he had been living in Athlone with his family for several years and was a fifth year student at the school.
The boy's family are at Potiuncula Hospital this evening and are being comforted by staff from the school and friends.
This is the third such death this week.
In Moate, just a short distance from Athlone, 16-year-old Tony Parker died after collapsing at the local community college, while in Co Tyrone, Patrick Breen, 10, died during a GAA training session.
