Figures from the Department of Finance show that there was an Exchequer deficit of €2.87bn in the first eight months of this year, with a shortfall in property related taxes and excise duties.
The figures show that total tax revenue of €27.3bn was €270m behind the target set out by the Government at the start of the year.
Spending was €567 ahead of target, in line with the trend for the past few months.
Day to day or current spending was €77m above target and capital expenditure was €490m ahead of target.
