Iran says it has met a key target in its nuclear programme.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has announced that it now has 3,000 centrifuges enriching uranium.

Centrifuges enrich uranium to the level required for a power station but also to higher levels for a nuclear bomb.

The President said Iran will continue its programme despite the placing of UN sanctions aimed at forcing a suspension.

Meanwhile, North Korea has apparently agreed to provide a full declaration of its nuclear programmes and will disable them by the end of this year.

North Korea tested a nuclear device last year, but has since agreed a deal to shut down its programme in return for economic and other aid.

The announcement was made by the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Chris Hill following discussions in Geneva.

The details will be discussed at talks scheduled for later this month in China.
