The Minister for Health, Mary Harney, has announced that Barringtons Hospital in Co Limerick has suspended the delivery of breast cancer services.
The move follows concerns relating to what is described as the adequacy and management of care of ten women who attended the services at the hospital from September 2003.
In a statement this evening, Ms Harney said that an independent clinical examination of care of patients who presented at the clinic during that period was required, and she has asked those patients to contact the hospital.
The Department has also asked Barringtons Hospital to assess how many patients may be involved.
