Three men face charges today in connection with an incident in Liberia that saw a video of an Irish soldier pointing a weapon at locals being uploaded to the internet.

The unnamed soldiers, based in Kilkenny, were on peacekeeping duties in the west African country.

One solider is charged with uploading the video and another with pointing of a weapon at members of the public.

The third soldier is charged with pointing the weapon at members of the public and members of the defence forces.

The army summary investigation by the commanding officer will last all day with a decision expected by tomorrow evening.

If found guilty at the summary the maximum penalty is loss of three days' pay.

Once a ruling is made, the soldiers have 24-hours to decide if they want to opt for court martial.

The maximum penalty in that case is up to two years in jail.

All three soldiers are being charged with conduct that would prejudice the good order of the forces.
