A 22-month-old baby girl has died in hospital after she fell from a third-storey window in a rented house in Cork city.
A passing motorist found the child with severe head injuries on the footpath below the three storey terraced house on Hardwick Street in the city centre at around 12.30pm yesterday afternoon.
It is believed the toddler, who was an only child, wandered into the room unbeknownst to her parents and fell out the window.
Her parents, who are originally from Bangladesh, were alerted to the tragedy by the emergency services. Gardaí have described the incident as a tragic accident.
The child died from her injuries at Mercy University Hospital this morning.
