A state of emergency has been declared in Greece as the death toll from raging forest fires across the country increased to 49.
Officials say many more people are thought to be trapped as the fires sweep the Peloponnese region.
Campaigning for the country's general election has been suspended.
It is suspected that some of the 170 fires were started deliberately.
The Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis has said the culprits will be brought to justice.
France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands have offered to help, following a Greek request for EU assistance on Friday, in particular for water-bombing aircraft.
