A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a body in a derelict house which was destroyed by fire in Clontarf overnight.

Four units of Dublin Fire Brigade attended the fire, which broke out at around 3am this morning at a house on Seafield Road East.

A 38-year-old man is being is being held at Raheny Garda station in connection with the fire.

He was arrested at 8am after he presented himself to gardaí at the station.

The man who was arrested has an address on Dublin's northside.

The investigation was upgraded from suspected arson to murder after gardaí discovered a body while searching the scene of the fire this afternoon.

The gender or identity of the victim is not yet known.
