New York - Commuters disrupted by flooding

Many New York commuters had to make their own way to work this morning after subway trains were halted due to flooded lines.

Every subway line going into Manhattan was affected by flooding after a severe overnight storm and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority urged New Yorkers to delay their travel until service was restored.

The overnight storm ripped roofs off houses, caused power outages and triggered tornado warnings.

None of the city's subway lines were running at full capacity during the morning rush hour.

Flights from New York's LaGuardia Airport were experiencing average delays of over an hour due to the weather.

Following the subway closures, buses and taxis across the city were filled to capacity.
