Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has announced his list of 11 appointed Senators.
As expected four of the new Seanad seats have gone to members of the Green Party and the Progressive Democrats.
Sunday Independent columnist and film lecturer, Eoghan Harris, has also been appointed.
Speaking on RTÉ Radio's News At One, Mr Harris said that his strong intervention backing the Taoiseach on RTÉ's The Late Late Show in the days before the General Election may have been a factor in his appointment. Watch that discussion here
