Talks between Eircom unions and management at the Labour Relations Commission have been adjourned and are due to resume tomorrow.
The Communications Workers Union served strike notice on the company last Thursday over Eircom's refusal to pay a 2% wage increase due under Towards 2016.
Leaving the talks, Steve Fitzpatrick of the CWU said there was a definite possibility the strike can be averted.
Eircom wants staff to agree to what it describes as 'documented understandings' on productivity before paying the increase in full.
Last week members of the CWU voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action.
