A senior policeman in Northern Ireland has praised good community relations in Co Antrim after an Orange Order banner stolen from a hall was returned.
The banner was stolen from the Orange hall at Main Street in Rasharkin on the 12 July, the main day for Orange celebrations.
A few hours earlier, police discovered the hall, which is in a mainly nationalist area had been attacked and daubed with a dissident republican slogan.
PSNI Chief Inspector David Wallace condemned the attack and thanked the local community for their help in returning the banner.
He said community relations in Rasharkin are generally very good and they should not be damaged by the mindless actions of one or two individuals.
Meanwhile Northern Ireland’s First Minister, Ian Paisley, has been told by the Security Minister that extra police will be deployed following recent attacks on Orange halls, some of them in border areas.
