Ehud Olmert - Travelled to Jordan for talks

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and King Abdullah II of Jordan are said to have had a secret meeting this week.

The talks focused on the Hamas takeover of Gaza last month and on relations between Israel and Jordan, who signed a peace deal in 1994.

The leaders also looked at the possible resumption of negotiations between Israel and Syria, which have been suspended since 2000.

The foreign ministers of Egypt and Jordan are expected to travel to Israel on 25 July to meet with Mr Olmert.

The Arab League has tasked Egypt and Jordan, the only two Arab countries to have signed peace treaties with Israel, with trying to convince the Jewish state to accept a Saudi-inspired peace plan.
