The Health Service Executive has said it needs a new computer package to manage its payroll and employee information.

These duties are currently managed by the Payroll, Personnel and Related System.

A spokeswoman for the HSE said PPARS was designed for the health board system and the HSE requires a programme that is more specific to its needs.

She said the new computer package would contain the same software as PPARS.

Yesterday, the HSE board endorsed a decision to move ahead with this new computer package.

However, this is subject to the approval of the Department of Finance and an independent review of the proposal will be carried out.

The HSE said until the Department of Finance give their opinion on the plan, it cannot say how much the new computer package would cost.
