Apple's new iPhone is due to go on sale today, but only in the US.

Hundreds of people have been queueing overnight for an opportunity to be among the first to have one.

Stores are not due to start selling the gadget until 6pm local time, across the US.

So New Yorkers will get to stump up at least €300 at about 11pm Irish time tonight, while Californians will have to wait until 7am tomorrow morning!

The device is a mobile phone, music player, video player and internet browser rolled into one.

Its 4Gb model will retail for $499 and its 8Gb model will cost $599.

It has already been dubbed by some as the 'God Machine'.

Last night enthusiastic consumers began camping outside Apple stores, including the one on 5th Avenue in New York.

The iPhone is to debut in Europe in late 2007 and in Asia in 2008.
