At least 21 people have been killed in a car bomb explosion at a Baghdad bus stop.

At least 42 people were injured in the attack.

The explosion happened in the capital's al-Bayaa neighbourhood, which has seen several insurgent attacks in recent weeks.

Staff in the city's Yarmuk hospital confirmed receiving the  bodies of 21 men, and said ambulances were still arriving.

In the town of Salman Pak south of Baghdad, local people found 20 beheaded men on the bank of the River Tigris.

All the victims were wearing civilian clothes and had their hands and legs bound.

In the southern city of Basra, three British soldiers were killed and a fourth seriously injured when a roadside bomb hit their foot patrol.

Major David Gell said the soldiers were part of a routine convoy heading out of Basra and had dismounted from their armoured vehicles in the al-Mutahya district.
