25 killed in attack on Taliban guerillas

At least 25 people, including women and children, have been killed in an air attack against Taliban guerillas in southern Afghanistan.

A spokesperson for the NATO-led international security force, Isaf, said planes bombed a compound after its troops were attacked by insurgents.

The President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai, has said civilian deaths caused by foreign forces would have to stop.  He warned that Afghans might turn against countries with a military presence in the country.

Lt Colonel Mike Smith of Isaf said they were investigating reports of the deaths and he lay responsibility for the attack on the Taliban.
