Long-serving Labour Party Councillor, Tom Costello has been elected the new Mayor of Galway city.
Cllr Costello was elected unanimously at a meeting of Galway City Council this afternoon.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Jonathan McGoldrick has been elected as the Mayor of Sligo.
He was elected by members of Sligo Borough Council this afternoon in accordance with an agreement between Fianna Fáil and Labour following the local elections of 2004 whereby they share the Mayoralty of Sligo.
