The fire which burned overnight in scrubland close to Bellanaboy in Co Mayo has now been brought under control.
Three units of the Mayo fire service attended the scene of the fire in the north of the county this morning.
Around 140 acres of scrubland owned by Coillte was damaged in the blaze, but the fire had no significant impact on the adjoining forest.
The affected area is about 2kms from the site of Shell's proposed gas terminal in Bellanaboy.
Last night a spokesman for the Shell to Sea campaign group said the blaze was a cause of serious concern as those opposing the terminal had always claimed it was a mistake to locate it in an area surrounded by forestry.
A spokeswoman for Shell said the fire was not a cause of concern for the company.
