Breeo Foods has announced it is closing its meat processing plant in Mitchelstown, Co Cork, with the loss of 70 jobs.
The manufacturing plant is set to close in the coming months, however Breeo Foods, which is part of the Dairygold group, will continue to operate.
The plant's closure had been widely expected since the company announced a review of its operations in January.
A spokesman for Breeo Foods said the consumer food business in Ireland is operating in an increasingly competitive market with a rising cost base.
The company will now begin discussions with staff and union representatives about severance and final closure arrangements for the plant.
The meat plant manufactures pork products including ham, rashers and puddings.
