Eight defendants on trial over the 2004 Madrid train bombings have abandoned their hunger strike protest.
Lawyers for the eight said in a statement that their clients 'realised that their gesture could be interpreted as an additional element of pressure' on the court.
They said that in order for the trial to take place without any extra pressure they decided to end their hunger strike.
A total of 14 of the 29 defendants were refusing food at one stage in protest at the conduct of the trial over the attacks in which 191 people were killed.
