A 22-year-old man, interviewed by police investigating the abduction of Madeleine McCann, has insisted he had nothing to do with her disappearance.

Police in Portugal raided the home of the Russian born man yesterday.

It is understood he designed a website for the British national named as the only formal suspect in the case.

Two hard drives, a laptop and a black bin bag full of items are reported to have been taken from the residence.

He said today he was interviewed as a witness and not a suspect, and stressed he was 'completely' innocent and had no criminal record in any country.

Four-year-old Madeleine disappeared from the apartment her family was staying in at an Algarve resort on 3 May.

Police said yesterday they had identified a main suspect in the case, who lives in the area of Praia da Luz.

Police did not name the suspect and said there was not enough evidence to make an arrest.
