Up to 12 people have been killed following a car bomb near a bridge south of Baghdad.
More than 22 people were wounded when suicide bombers drove an explosive-laden truck and car into police checkpoints near the Diyala bridge.
The bridge carries major traffic towards Salman Pak and southern Iraq.
City authorities banned trucks weighing more than 1.5 metric tonnes from all but two bridges across the Tigris itself after a 12 April bombing in which one of Baghdad's oldest bridges collapsed into the river.
