New guidelines that would increase the size of apartments in Dublin by up to 25% have been recommended by Dublin City Council.
The plan which would also more than halve the percentage of one bedroom units will now go for a four-week public consultation period.
The Construction Industry Federation has criticised the draft guidelines saying they will drive development out of the city.
City council officials say the guidelines are needed to encourage more families to live in apartments.
Following a vote of approval, the guidelines are to come back before the city council in July for final approval.
