The Road Safety Authority is urging motorists to exercise caution due to increased traffic on Irish roads over the bank holiday weekend.

Over the past five years, 27 people have lost their lives on the roads over the May Bank Holiday period.

The authority says speed is the main factor behind most of the fatal crashes and the vast majority of such accidents involve young male drivers.
