The Green Party has accused the Government of sleepwalking into a crisis over the quality of the country's water supply.

This morning, party leader Trevor Sargent warned that the cryptosporidium outbreak in Galway is just the tip of the iceberg.

Galway Mayor Niall Ó Brolcháin accused the Minister for the Environment, Dick Roche, of having no interest in finding the source of the pollution because he said it would show the Government in an extremely bad light.

The party's Environment Spokesperson, Ciarán Cuffe, said the minister had to go before proper water supplies could be guaranteed.
