Three units of the Galway Fire Brigade have been tackling a gorse fire in the Bearna area since early afternoon.
Up to 100 acres of scrubland were destroyed, roads were closed and many people in the area had to leave their homes.
The fire is now under control and is being investigated by the gardaí in Salthill.
