Sinn Féin has confirmed it will put forward 42 candidates in all but two of the 43 constituencies in the forthcoming General Election.

A quarter of the party's candidates are women.

The party's Ard Comhairle finalised its candidate selection and election campaign at a meeting in Dublin this afternoon.

Director of Elections, Pat Doherty, said the party expects to make significant gains in the election but he would not speculate on the number of additional Dáil seats it hopes to win.

Mr Doherty said the party was also ready to negotiate terms for a coalition government with other parties after the election.
