A 17-year-old student has died from a meningitis-linked illness at Portiuncula hospital in Ballinasloe, Co Galway.
He was admitted to the hospital on Thursday and died in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The HSE said he had died from blood poisoning due to meningitis.
The HSE said members of the man's immediate family have been put on a treatment of medication.
