The euro has reached its highest level against the dollar since January 2005.
The euro rose to $1.3540 in European trading this morning, its highest level since 3 January, 2005.
The development comes as persistent concerns about the health of the US economy have driven its currency down on international markets.
The European single currency broke through $1.35 yesterday after the European Central Bank signalled that it was ready to raise euro zone interest rates again in June.
