17 killed in Iraqi suicide attack

17 people have been killed by a woman suicide bomber in the Iraqi town of Muqdadiya, 90km northeast of Baghdad.

The victims were recruits outside a police station. 33 other people were wounded.

Another car bomb killed five people and wounded ten near Baghdad University.

The attack took place near the university campus in the southwestern Jadiriyah district of the capital.

In a separate incident, the US military said that one of its helicopters was hit by small arms fire in Baghdad, but returned safely to base.

The US military said three US soldiers were killed in an attack in Baghdad yesterday, while another was killed in the west of the country.
